HISTORY:
Oz was born and raised in Sunnydale, California. He was an only child with loving, laid back parents. He didn’t have too many hard set rules growing up, so when he started school he had some issues. He was never really one to get his homework done on time or completely finish his assignments, but he always did really well on exams and group projects. His teachers never really knew what to do with him, so it was often a frustrating situation.
When Oz started high school he made friends easily. He was quiet, but when he did open his mouth it was to say something funny or poignant. He was never really involved in any major drama and nobody who knew who he was disliked him. He became good friends with a guy named Devon MacLeish. When Oz started learning to play guitar they started toying with the idea of forming a band. Over the next few years they gathered two other guys and formed the band Dingoes Ate My Baby (also called The Dingoes). By Oz’s senior year he was actually pretty popular, even though he didn’t really see himself that way. His quiet nature gave him an air of mystery and being the lead guitarist in a band automatically branded him “cool.” He also had a van and tended to know where the cool college parties were.
Oz must have seen Willow Rosenberg in passing a million times, but he didn’t take notice of her until he saw her wearing an Eskimo costume at an event at The Bronze. For some reason he was intrigued by her and he spent the next few weeks awkwardly crossing paths with her. When they finally met officially they started casually dating. It wasn’t until Oz learned about the supernatural that he started to gradually become a part of Willow’s life, as well as the lives of her friends. Although he wasn’t fully aware of the supernatural, he was suspicious of it for a time and it explained quite a bit about Sunnydale.
Oz discovered he was a werewolf shortly after he started dating Willow and he began distancing himself from her and her friends. This confused Willow a great deal and when she confronted him about it he transformed into a werewolf, revealing his secret to the group. Once Willow and her friends accepted him for what he was he became a lot more comfortable with them. He and Willow started dating seriously and he considered Buffy, Xander, and Giles his friends.
Over the next several months Oz dealt with his werewolf problem by locking himself in a cage in the library during the three nights of the full moon cycle, always guarded by one of his friends. He had to repeat his senior year due to having a lot of incompletes and failing to go to summer school. This put him in the same grade as Willow and his friends for a year. He and Willow broke up briefly after she had a fling with Xander, but after mulling it over Oz forgave Willow and they reconciled. Oz was a part of the Graduation Day battle with Mayor Wilkins and he graduated with his friends.
After high school, Oz went to UC Sunnydale with Buffy and Willow. He moved into a house off campus he shared with his bandmates and began using a cage in a crypt at a local cemetery to confine himself during the full moon. He encountered another werewolf named Veruca, who he was drawn to because of their shared lycanthropy. They also shared a lot of common interests. However, Veruca had a different outlook on her lycanthropy and had no interest in containing her animal side. In an attempt to keep her from murdering anyone while in her were-form, Oz locked himself in the cage with Veruca. Unfortunately this led to the two of them sharing a night of passion, which devastated Willow. Oz ended up having to kill Veruca to prevent her from killing Willow. Worrying that he needed to gain better control over his lycanthropy, Oz left Sunnydale.
Over the next several months Oz traveled the world, spending time in Mexico, Romania, and Tibet. He learned meditation and dieting techniques that allowed him to control his transformations during the full moon. He returned to Sunnydale to reunite with Willow, but when he discovered she’d started dating Tara Maclay he became overwhelmed with emotion and transformed. He was captured by The Initiative and experimented on until he was rescued by his old friends and Riley Finn. Oz left Sunnydale once again and has been traveling ever since.
Oz has lived the life of a nomad for the last three years, never staying in more than one place for more than a few months. He also didn’t form any lasting friendships or other attachments. He was shocked to learn that Sunnydale was destroyed, but his family and friends were quick to inform him they were okay. He was told the potentials were activated as full slayers and that Anya and Spike were killed. After that he stopped receiving clear details, both because he lost touch with his friends once they weren’t all living in Sunnydale and because he became extremely difficult to contact.
Oz can currently control his transformations to some degree. Although he feels the pull of the full moon, he is able to remain human during that time. However he can transform under situations of distress, pain, or very strong negative emotion. He can transform at will, though he prefers not to. He is also more prone to transforming during the full moon than any other time. He continues to travel, but he has cities he frequently visits, including Los Angeles.

PERSONALITY:
Oz is typically a patient person. He’s laid back and non-confrontational. He tends to be quiet and observant in a crowd. He’s not very talkative, preferring only to speak when he has something relevant to say, but he’s a very good listener. He’s observant and pays attention to details, even though he may not seem actively involved in a conversation.
Although he’s highly intelligent, Oz typically lacks motivation when it comes to work or academics. However, when Oz genuinely wants to know about something he’s fully capable of mastering it. He knows a lot about computers and music because they interest him.
Oz has gone through some personal changes in the last few years that have altered his personality a bit. He doesn’t mask his emotions as he used to. He’s developed ways to diffuse negative emotions quickly and when he can’t he tries to step away from the situation and find a way to get rid of those emotions. He becomes a bit edgy around the full moon so he tends to be a bit more aggressive than usual around that time. In general, he has less patience for negativity. He’s quick to bow out of situations that make him feel uncomfortable.

WRITING SAMPLE:
I took her out, It was a Friday night
I wore cologne to get the feeling right...
Oz drummed on the steering wheel of his van as he drove, slowing to a stop at a red light. He peered through the windshield and glanced around at his surroundings. He hadn't been to L.A. in a while, but the area was still vaguely familiar.
The bright, full moon looming in the night sky made him uneasy. He didn't normally venture out during the full moon, but he hadn't been able to avoid it.
"...and that's about the time she walked awaaaayyy from meeee. Nobody likes you when you're twe-enty-threeee..."
Oz sang along with the song as the light turned green an he continued to drive. He was surprised at how well he knew the words to the song. He hadn't exactly loved it the first time he'd heard it, but it had been on the radio too much to be ignored. Admittedly, it was catchy.
For some reason the music, the singing, was calming. The driving, too. He felt almost normal as he drove through the city of L.A., looking for nothing in particular. Except maybe a decent motel.
A few songs and a commercial break later Oz pulled into the parking lot of a 7-11. It was practically empty. He pulled his van in beside one lonely Honda and turned off the engine. He shoved his car keys into the pocket of his coat as he walked toward the front door, humming to himself as he went.
"Look, man, I don't know what you're talking about," someone was saying as Oz walked in.
He stopped abruptly, paused in the doorway as a big linebacker-looking guy stood at the counter glaring at the scrawny kid on the other side. The two of them couldn't have been more than sixteen or seventeen.
"Don't give me that crap, Samson," the big guy said.
He jabbed a finger at the Samson kid's chest for emphasis, though in Oz's opinion it really wasn't necessary.
"Dude, I swear, I don't know how your car got messed up, but I had nothing to do with it," Samson insisted.
Oz wrinkled his brows, trying to piece together what he'd just walked into. He figured it was safe to assume the two of them went to the same school and knew each other at least in passing. Otherwise this whole situation made even less sense. Apparently the big guy thought the Samson guy had done something to his car. Whether the accusation was true or not didn't really matter. Either Samson would say he did it and get his ass kicked, or keep denying it and eventually get his ass kicked.
This was not the kind of thing Oz liked walking in on.
He cleared his throat from the doorway, which made both guys turn to look at him.
"Uh, hi. Sorry to interrupt," Oz said. "Could one of you point me to the slushie machine?"
He didn't need to be told where the slushie machine was - he could spot it from where he was standing. But he figured it'd be a good way to interrupt, and maybe the big guy would walk away now that there was a witness hanging around. Samson jerked his head nervously toward the other side of the store. Oz gave him a nod.
"Thanks."
Oz glanced at the big guy, who wasn't looking at him, and headed over to make himself a raspberry slushy. He took his time with it, though a part of him wanted to hurry up and get out of there. But, what was he supposed to leave the kid here to get beat up? He still kept hoping if he just hung around the other guy would leave.
That didn't happen.
It was eerily quiet as Oz made his way to the counter with his slushie. He edged in beside the big guy, who wasn't moving even to let Samson take Oz's money.
"Uh, you mind giving me a little breathing room, pal?" Oz asked. "You're kind of all up in my personal bubble."
The guy narrowed his eyes and stared down at Oz. He looked a little surprised that Oz had even said anything to him at all. Oz was a little surprised, too.
"Uh... What?"
Oz turned to face him and blinked.
"I... thought I was pretty clear," he said. "You're a little too close to me and I don't like it."
Oh, God. Was he really saying what he heard himself saying? He hadn't really intended to say anything. He'd just planned to buy his slush and go, maybe hang around outside in case something happened. Now he was getting all confrontational with this guy, who looked like he could benchpress a semi-truck or something.
Oh, yeah. This was going to end well.
"What, are you gonna start with me now, kid?" the big guy asked.
Oz wrinkled his eyebrows. Kid? Well, he guessed, proportionately, that was sort of accurate. The guy was a few heads taller and a lot more muscular than Oz was. Samson stood behind the counter looking horrified. Oz was feeling more anxious by the second. This was not a good time for confrontation.
Despite logic telling him to walk away before things got ugly, something else made Oz stand his ground, staring up at the guy. He didn't say anything, but he didn't walk away either. The guy seemed confused and irritated by this.
"Yo, what's your problem, man?"
The guy took a step closer, leaving a few inches of distance between them. Oz tensed.
"No problem," Oz said. "Just trying to buy a slushie."
The guy continued to stare down at him, and Oz continued to stay where he was.
'Don't do it,' he thought. 'Don't do it.'
He wasn't sure if he was silently pleading with the Neanderthal in front of him or himself. Which was unsettling, to say the least.
Oz felt a knot in the pit of his stomache as he hoped this guy would just back off.
He really should've locked himself in a cage or something tonight.
